Digger 'theft' case dropped after year
08.09.09
A DISGRUNTLED Newton Abbot digger driver, who 'stole' a £6,000 mini digger when he felt he was not paid what he was owed, has had a theft case against him dropped after more than a year.
At Exeter Crown Court the prosecution offered no further evidence against 45-year-old Mark Griffiths on a charge of theft of the mini digger.
Recorder Nigel Lickley QC heard Mr Griffiths had successfully pursued a claim against the firm for whom he was working at the time and had been awarded £27,000 in a county court judgement.
Recorder Lickley questioned why the case, which dated back to the middle of July last year, had taken so long to be settled, especially in view of the fact the Crown had been informed of the £27,000 judgement back in April this year.
